Although he prayed with every breath,
Our Lord was seized and put to death.
It must have seemed that God concurred
That death should have the final word.
His friends returned to Jesus’ tomb
But found the grave an empty room.
A shining angel at the door
Declared the Lord had gone before.
Alleluia, alleluia, alleluia! The Lord is risen.
And as they walked back home that day
They met the Lord upon the way.
They heard the words of life outpoured
As Jesus spoke to them once more.
Alleluia, alleluia, alleluia! The Lord is risen.
“I leave my spirit here with you
To speak my word each day anew
But you are now my only hands
And so I bid you feed my lambs.”
This is the word of God.
It lives within our hearts:
A word of love that knows no ending,
For Jesus is risen, Alleluia!
