CHILDREN'S CHOIR
Who can join the Children's Choir?The Children's Choir is open to kids from first through fifth grade.
In previous years, we had two children's choirs: The Cherub Choir was for children K-3. The Junior Choir included youth in grades 4-8. With changing church demographics, we combined the two in the fall of 2008.
When does the Children's Choir rehearse?The Children's Choir rehearses every Sunday after church from 10:45 to 11:30am. This time slot allows children to participate in both Children's Choir and Junior Bells.
There are typically two additional rehearsals directly after the two Sunday services immediately preceding the Christmas Concert (first and second Sundays of December).
How often does the Children's Choir sing?The schedule depends on the readiness of the children and when slots are available in the service, but children typically sing once every four to six weeks. Rehearsal time is used for building general musical skills, not just preparing a piece for performance.
Do the children present any concerts or other special events?Along with all the other musical groups in the church, the Children's Choir prepares several pieces for the annual Christmas Concert, which is typically scheduled on the second Sunday in December at 5pm.
The children also present a musical in the spring. This usually involves learning six to eight songs (including solos) presented with some connecting dialogue and with minimal staging and blocking.
This musical is in addition to the Christmas Eve pageant and the end-of-year program organized by the Christian Education department. Christian Education programs include music and singing and are open to all children in the Sunday School. The choir musical is prepared by the children who have joined the choir.
